I consider myself “high tech”, but how high tech can I call myself if my kid doesn’t have an email address. I am no longer living in shame because Carter now has his own email address at gmail.com.
I didn’t know that the FTC requires children under 13 to have parental consent when accessing websites. When I went to set Carter up an account at gmail.com it stopped me when I put in his actual birthday. Google probably didn’t want to hassle with all that legal liability so they don’t let anyone under 13 have a gmail.com account. After I fudged the date a few years gmail finally let me create an account.
Technically Carter doesn’t have an email address, I just happen to have a second gmail account with his name.
Feel free to send him a shout out firstname.lastname@example.org.
